Espejito, espejito...

What the hell is Quora?

via 101
Quora is a continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it. The most important thing is to have each question page become the best possible resource for someone who wants to know about the question.

Para utilizar Quora debes tener una invitación para unirte, como Tuenti, y ya son 500.000 usuarios.

Flavors.me

If you’re reading this post, there’s a good chance you have multiple online profiles scattered across various services, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, and Twitter. And one problem you may face is pulling all of this information together to build a single online identity — be it for personal use, or to create a professional online profile.

Flavors.me makes it for you

After completing a basic sign up form, you link your Flavors.me page to any of 15 online services, with options that include Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (as well as any RSS feed). Flavors.me taps into these services via their APIs (you generally enter your credentials using OAuth or Facebook Connect), and within minutes you’re ready to start customizing your site.
Flavors.me is free for its basic features, and will generate revenue through premium subscriptions, which are $20 a year. Premium features include the ability to use your own custom domain name, real time statistics, and the ability to include a contact form in your page (though obviously you could just include your Email address in the standard ‘About’ field).

Social Augmented Reality Mobile Location-based Service “Sekai Camera” (World Camera)
Their client-side software and web service enable camera-equipped mobile devices (such as iPhones, Android “Google Phones”, and other smart-phones) to access informational and entertainment services by creating a “Clickable World” via the use of Augmented Reality (AR) hyper-tags.
These user-clickable tags, which they call “AirTags”, are location-based and mapped in the real world. These AirTags can be seen and accessed through the camera view of mobile devices with Sekai Camera software.
Sekai Camera is realized though a combination of technologies, including client-side software deployed on iPhone, Android and other OS platforms, and also highly scalable web computing systems. In addition, Sekai Camera integrates with services provided by mobile carriers, existing data/service providers, and location technology companies, which combined, enable this dynamic location-based information retrieval service.

Another company founded in 2004 by two former PayPal employees, Yelp is a local reviews website covering almost 40 states. Yelp also launched in the UK in January 2009. Users write and read reviews about anything from their favorite hole in the wall restaurant to the worst downtown club. Additionally Yelp offers social networking features: the ability to add friends, groups, events, talk in forums or message contacts. The idea behind this is that users will trust their friend’s reviews more than others. Yelp’s competition comes from Citysearch, Insider Pages, Yahoo Local and Google Local.

Backblaze is a one click online storage solution. It tries to minimize the user interaction required to create a backup.
Backblaze is an online backup tool that allows Windows and Mac users to back up their data to an offsite data center. The service costs $5 per month for unlimited space. The service also makes use of AES encryption, data compression and bandwidth throttling.

WizeHive is an online collaboration tool that lets you share files, manage projects and track activity with others in secure, private workspaces. It combines microblogging features found in Twitter and Yammer, project management features found in BaseCamp, and general collaboration and organizational features found in SharePoint and Lotus Notes. Like Yammer, WizeHive lets groups of folks establish a private and continuous feed of activity. By setting up a private workspace, WizeHive users can communicate on one or more topics through a browser interface, a desktop client, or most importantly, by sending and receiving emails. But WizeHive extends the Yammer model by allowing those with multiple interests or groups to set up separate workspaces for each group yet optionally see all of the activity in one integrated feed.
Messages entered or sent through WizeHive can contain text, links, graphics and attached files. Uploaded files can be shared among workspace members and most Word or Excel compatible files can be edited collaboratively right from within WizeHive.
WizeHive extends the collaboration model further by providing task integrated management where you can organize and manage yourself and optionally your co-workers. You can assign and manage tasks for each workspace independently or organize and manage your own activities across all workspaces.

Hunch is a consumer web application that is building the “taste graph” of the internet, mapping every person on the internet to every entity on the internet and their affinity for that entity. An entity could be a web site, a cookbook, a hotel room, a celebrity, a restaurant, etc.
Hunch creates a taste profile by asking them a series of questions which range from serious to profound and subsequently can make recommendations personalized to that user, which live in “topics”.
Topics vary widely, from entertaining subjects like ‘Which superhero would you be’ to more conventional questions like ‘Should I Switch to A Mac?’ The system then uses the answers to these questions to offer the user a suggested solution, a “hunch” of what the user would like.
